The element recovery rate of silicon aluminum alloy is high, mainly because the alloy has a large specific gravity, aluminum has a specific gravity of 2.7g/cm3, and ferro silicon aluminum (FeAl30Si20) has a specific gravity of 3.5-4.2g/cm3. The specific gravity of the steelmaking residue is generally 2.8-3.2g/cm3, so the ferro silicon aluminum alloy will sink below the scum after being added, which effectively controls the reaction of aluminum with air and oxygen in the slag.

The use of ferro silicon aluminum alloy for deoxidation has proved its good effect in practical applications. Compared with aluminum deoxidation, not only the yield of aluminum is high, the amount of residual aluminum is easy to control, and the shape of inclusions is also improved.It is generally believed that the good deoxygenation effect is due to the formation of complex deoxygenation products and the reduced oxide activity, which is beneficial to the progress of the deoxidation reaction. In addition, low-melting-point phases are easy to generate, which makes inclusions easy to polymerize and promotes the floating and removal of deoxidized products.
